One Team, One EPIC Culture: Inside Our Company’s Team Focus Week

At Component Sense, our EPIC culture isn’t just another buzzword. It is built, lived, and constantly reinforced in our daily work. It is reflected in the way we operate, the way we lead, and the way we show up for each other.

In July, we took a week to embrace that culture. Our Team Focus Week 2025 was all about connection, learning, and fun. It was a slight break from the day-to-day to realign on what makes our workplace not just high-performing but human.

We support a fully remote and flexible hybrid work culture, with team members spread across the UK, Europe, and the USA. But for our Team Focus Week, we flew in our colleagues from across the continent to our Edinburgh, Scotland headquarters.

Why? Because Team Focus Week isn't just about fun activities, it is about presence. About connecting in person and strengthening team bonds.

And the timing couldn’t be more perfect. This month, we were officially recognised as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces for Wellbeing, a reflection of our deep commitment to fostering an environment where everyone feels seen, supported, and set up to succeed in and out of the workplace.

So, what did our Team Focus Week look like? A whole lot of EPIC! Let us dive in.

Punching Into Monday: Team Boxing Workout with Personal Trainer Bamba

We kicked off the week with a full workday, but made time to recharge and reconnect with an energising midday boxing workout led by our incredible trainer, Bamba.

Ash Arya, junior marketer, boxing with Bamba, personal trainer.

Boxing with Bamba wasn't just about fitness; it was about team spirit. With our gloves on and energy high, we encouraged each other and embraced the power of movement. Bamba reminded us that real strength isn't physical, but it is about going out of your comfort zone, being present, and showing up for your team, and that is what we are all about!

Tuesday AM: People Component & The New Accountability Chart

Morag Dine, head of growth, giving presentation of accountability chart. We gathered at HQ for a deep dive with the Senior Team as they unveiled our brand-new Accountability Chart, a clear, transparent view of how roles, responsibilities, and structure align across the business.

At Component, trust is built on clarity and integrity, key pillars of our EPIC values. By mapping who owns what and how we fit together, we are giving everyone a clearer sense of ownership and direction. It is a roadmap for working better together as one team.

Tuesday Night at Roxy Lane: Bowling & Ballads

Later that evening, we swapped whiteboards for bowling pins and markers for karaoke mics. At Roxy Lane in Edinburgh, we laughed (a lot), ate (too much maybe), bowled, and then embraced some serious singing energy.

Teams that play together stay together, and sometimes, the best way to bond is belting out 2000s anthems in a neon-lit room. It was fun seeing people step out of their comfort zones to try activities they’ve never done before. Watching colleagues try something new and cheer each other on was a powerful reminder of what makes our team special.

Wednesday: Sales Workshop with Matthew Quinn

While most of the team returned to their usual tasks, a cross-functional crew came together for a sales workshop led by Matthew Quinn, the Managing Director of Future Sales Factory. Initially designed for the sales team, the training quickly evolved into something more collaborative. The truth is, everyone plays a part in the customer journey, whether you are in marketing, operations, or support. Every touchpoint matters:

"From your first handshake with a prospective customer to your first invoice..."

— Matthew Quinn

Every interaction can influence a sale. Together, we mapped out the complete 6-step sales journey. By opening the session to more than just the sales team, we created space for different perspectives and shared understanding.

Thursday: Pizza Night!

After a packed day of work, Thursday evening transformed into an in-office pizza night filled with laughter, connection, and some seriously good food.

Greg Young, head of tech operations, putting his homemade pizza in the oven

Greg, our Head of Tech Operations, stepped out of his usual role and into the spotlight as our pizza chef! Every single pizza, from the dough to the sauce, was made from scratch by Greg himself, and yes... they were absolutely EPIC!

Looking Ahead—More EPIC Memories in the Future

Team Focus Week wasn’t just a series of events. It was a time to connect and recommit to the culture that we have been building for the past couple of decades.

It reminded us:

  • That face-to-face time still matters, even in a hybrid or remote workplace.

  • That culture is created in everyday interactions.

  • That our EPIC values aren’t just statements; they’re lived.

We’re incredibly proud to be named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces for Wellbeing, and Team Focus Week is one example of why.

We make space for connection, invest in our people, and believe the best teams are those that grow, laugh, and support one another, even if that means crossing borders for a boxing session and a slice of pizza.

Living Our EPIC Values Internally and Externally

Team Focus Week was a powerful reminder that our EPIC values: Enterprising, Positivity, Integrity, and Clarity aren’t just internal principles; they’re embedded in how we work with our customers every day.

Whether helping OEMs move surplus stock sustainably or giving buyers access to tier-one component pricing, we bring the same energy, transparency, and accountability to every conversation. Our commitment to people inside and outside our walls is what drives our performance, our innovation, and the trust we’ve built across the industry.
