5G Driving Increased Demand for MLCC

5G Driving Increased Demand for MLCC
Multi-layer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) suppliers are gearing up for a record 2020, thanks to the wave of 5G technology set to head into production, including the upcoming iPhone 12. China is leading the way with orders for components needed to produce 5G devices early this year. Japanese firm Tiyo Yuden, one of Apple's suppliers, is expecting to benefit from the demand as 5G smartphones use roughly 30% more capacitors than 4G devices. The MLCCs manufactured by the firm are the building blocks of the modern world. The tiny components are made of metallic plates and are used in electronic circuits...

Electronic Component Supply Eases

Electronic Component Supply Eases
For the past few years, many manufacturers have been constrained by the shortage of passive components, particularly multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). Over the past year the supply has eased while demand is slightly down, reducing the pressure on manufacturers. In 2018 GoPro expected to manufacture 5 million units of their flagship action camera. In fact they manufactured 4.2 million. Was there less demand than expected? No, they ran into a classic supply chain problem - the demand for a key component, a multi-layer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) exceeded supply. Although an MLCC is a tiny component, it is a critical one...
