Component Sense is. Established in Scotland in 2001, our business was born out of a need to reduce electronic waste and make the electronics industry more sustainable. Since the turn of the century, climate change has been proven by environmental experts to be a real and quantifiable problem. Unfortunately, however, governments and organisations continue to engage in destructive practices: mining our planet for finite resources; producing on a dramatic scale; and improperly disposing of waste. All of this is damaging our environment at an astonishing rate.
Working with the electronics industry, we know the environmentally-damaging practices of our sector first-hand. The electronic components and devices that have modernised our world often require mining precious materials. Plus, their production processes consume high amounts of energy and emit carbon into the air.
On Earth Day 2023, Component Sense still has hope. For Earth Day, we have all been called to #InvestInOurPlanet. Our answer to the climate crisis? Investment in redistribution and reforestation.
Our company was established to minimise the amount of excess and obsolete electronic stock discarded annually. According to reports, over 59.4 million metric tonnes of electronic waste was produced in 2022 alone. By specialising exclusively in excess and obsolete components, Component Sense discourages overproduction and wastage. This way, we help electronics manufacturers become more efficient, profitable, and environmentally friendly. We truly believe that redistribution is the way forward towards a zero-waste economy in electronics.
We know that we cannot stop the climate crisis ourselves. That’s why we have partnered with the reforestation charity, One Tree Planted, to invest in our planet and plant two trees for every order we receive. Since 2021, we have planted over 8000 native trees in forests around the world.
By investing in international reforestation efforts, we can help trees perform vital processes, such as absorbing excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, producing oxygen, and providing a home for whole microbiological ecosystems.
